1. Introduction
SnapMind is an Android app, made by Ctoryteller, that reads the screenshots on your phone, sorts them into what you meant to do with them, and helps you find them again.
Screenshots can hold very personal things — messages, bank details, tickets, addresses. So SnapMind is built to work entirely on your phone. This Privacy Policy explains what it handles and the few, specific cases in which anything goes online.
2. The short version
- No account and no server. SnapMind has no sign-up and no login, and Ctoryteller runs no server or database for it. We never receive your screenshots, their text, your searches or your library.
- The AI runs on your phone. Reading text, sorting, finding duplicates and search by meaning are all done by models inside the app.
- No analytics, no advertising, no tracking by us.
- Three things involve Google, and only as described in Section 6: your Pro subscription (Google Play), the key that opens your backups on your own phones (Google's Block Store), and translation languages you choose to download.
3. What SnapMind keeps on your phone
To do its job, SnapMind stores the following in its own private storage on your device. The library is kept in an encrypted database.
- Your screenshots — the images you let it read, and its own copy of each so it still works if the original is moved. With your permission it reads existing screenshots and each new one as you take it; you can limit it to folders you choose, and exclude others.
- What it learns from them — the text it reads, the category it files each one under, the prices, dates, links, phone numbers, email addresses, street addresses and QR codes it finds, short summaries, and the numerical "embeddings" used to search by meaning and to spot duplicates.
- People — for chat screenshots, the name or number shown at the top of the chat, so it can group them by person. This comes only from what is visible in your own screenshots; SnapMind does not read your contacts.
- What you add — reminders, collections and albums, annotations and edited copies, locked items, the optional name and photo on your profile, and your settings.
- Your app lock — if you set a PIN, it is stored only as a salted, slowly computed hash, never as the PIN itself. Fingerprint unlock uses Android's own biometric system; SnapMind never receives your fingerprint.
Other people in your screenshots. Screenshots often show other people's names, numbers and messages. SnapMind processes them only on your phone, for your own use, and never sends them to us.
4. Permissions
| Permission | Why | When |
|---|---|---|
| Photos and screenshots (or selected photos) | To find and read your screenshots | When you allow it during setup |
| Notifications | Reminders, the digest and suggestions | If you allow them |
| Exact alarms and start on boot | So reminders fire on time, including after a restart | If you allow exact alarms; otherwise reminders are approximate |
| Approximate location, including in the background | Optional: to remind you of a saved place when you are near it | Off by default; only if you turn on location reminders |
| Internet | For Google Play, Block Store and translation downloads (Section 6) | Only for those features |
Location reminders, if you turn them on, use approximate location only. The places to watch are registered with Android on your phone; SnapMind does not record where you go and sends no location to us.
5. How SnapMind uses your information
Only to provide the app's features to you, on your device: reading and sorting your screenshots, search, reminders, collections, the vault, backups and your Pro subscription. We do not use your information for advertising, profiling or training models, and we cannot, because we never receive it.
6. When SnapMind goes online
- Google Play — your subscription. Buying, restoring and checking Pro happen through Google Play, under your Google account and Google's terms. Google processes the payment; we do not receive your card, bank or account details. SnapMind asks Google Play on your phone which subscriptions are active, and checks Google's signature on the answer on the device. Google provides us, as it does every developer, with purchase records such as an order number, date and amount, which we use only for refunds, support and accounting.
- Google's Block Store — your backup key. The first time you make a backup, SnapMind creates a random key that opens your backups and stores it in your Google account's Block Store. Google keeps it end-to-end encrypted, and only when your phone has a screen lock; it is restored to your new Android phone when you sign in with the same Google account. We cannot read this key.
- Translation languages. If you translate a screenshot's text (a Pro feature), the language model you choose is downloaded from Google once. The text itself is translated on your phone.
- Google's on-device libraries. SnapMind uses Google's ML Kit to read text and QR codes on your phone. According to Google, ML Kit may contact Google to receive model updates and may send Google technical metrics about how its features perform; it does not send your screenshots or their text.
- Links you open. Tapping a link, phone number, email address or street address in a screenshot opens it in the app you choose — a browser, the dialler, your email app or maps. What happens there is governed by that app's policy.
7. Backups and moving to a new phone
There is no sync. To move your library, you make a backup file and keep it wherever you like.
- Each backup is encrypted (AES-256-GCM) with a new key, which is itself locked twice: by your account key in Block Store (Section 6) and by a backup password you set (derived with Argon2id). Your phone keeps a key derived from the password, never the password itself.
- On your own phones a backup usually opens with no typing; elsewhere, it asks for the password.
- We cannot open your backups and cannot recover them. If you forget your backup password and lose access to your Google account, a backup cannot be opened by anyone.
8. Deleting your data
- You can delete any screenshot, empty the Trash, or use Wipe everything in Privacy settings, which destroys your library and the encryption keys protecting it. There is no undo.
- Uninstalling SnapMind removes its library from your phone.
- Your original screenshots stay in your phone's gallery unless you choose to delete them there; SnapMind offers this only for screenshots it has safely copied.
- Backup files you have saved, and the backup key in your Google account, are not deleted by a wipe or an uninstall — they are yours to delete.
9. Security
Your library is encrypted on the device and protected by Android's app sandbox. You can lock the app with a PIN or fingerprint, with growing lock-outs after wrong PINs, and lock individual screenshots in a vault that hides them from search. No method of storage is perfectly secure; a rooted or compromised phone may expose app data.
10. Children
SnapMind is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone of any age. A child under 18 should subscribe only with a parent's or guardian's consent.
11. Your rights
Under India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023, you have the right to access, correct and erase your personal data, to withdraw consent, to nominate someone to act for you, and to have a grievance addressed. Because SnapMind keeps your library only on your device, you exercise most of these directly in the app (Section 8). For anything we hold — such as purchase records Google provides, or emails you send us — write to snapmind@ctoryteller.com or our Grievance Officer. If your grievance is not resolved, you may escalate it to the Data Protection Board of India.
12. Changes to this policy
If SnapMind ever starts to collect or send anything new, we will update this policy before the app version that does so is released, and change the "Last updated" date above.
